Lesson 7

Here we are at the last lesson of Babes ‘n’ Yarns!

It seems fitting to end with a look back at all we’ve learned as well as to look ahead
by making our own knitting needles.

Lesson 7.1 will show you exactly how to make your own knitting needles.

Lesson 7.2 gives you a glimpse into what I’ve put into my own KnitNotes Ideabook.

Lesson 7.3 poses a few questions that you might like to reflect upon & carry with you as you
& your child continue on your fibre arts journey.

Lesson 7.1

Making

Knitting Needles

Making your own knitting needles is quite simple & very rewarding.

Now, whenever your child sees knitting needles he can envision exactly how they can be made & will always know what to look for when/if he decides to buy some – a smooth shaft, no shoulder, not too sharp a point.

Every time you teach your child another skill that they can add to their fibre arts knowledge base, you are increasing their sense of self-reliance & opening their eyes to the many ways they can experiment with tools & materials.

I have included a video to show you the movements for sanding & waxing the needles as well as a slideshow with a supplies list & detailed photos.  (There is NO narration for the slideshow.)

Lesson 7.2

Your KnitNotes

Ideabook

Creating your own KnitNotes Ideabook is a wonderful way to keep a record of your
fibre arts experiments & projects.

It’s a lot easier to look up information or remember how a certain yarn looks when
worked, if you keep these things all together.

When collecting items & images to include, don’t forget to add in a few pictures of your
child’s work as well as them DOING it!  They will enjoy seeing how their skills have progressed
& seeing how young they were when they started on this amazing journey.

Your Ideabook could become a mini time-capsule that you can treasure & hand down
to your child when they are older.  I look forward to giving mine to my daughter.

I wish I had one from when I was little !

PS.  There is NO narration for this slideshow.

Lesson 7.3

Reflections

Your last exercise for this course is to give yourself some time to consider these questions.

Write or draw your responses – do it quickly or slowly or come back to them again & again.

I guarantee more than a couple will bubble up when you least expect them to!

Enjoy!
